RM2DGBP1J–A late 19th Century view of Ludlow Castle, a ruined medieval castle in Ludlow, Shropshire and one of the first stone castles to be built in England. It was probably founded in the 11th Century by Walter de Lacy after the Norman conquest. During the English Civil War, it was besieged, taken by a Parliamentarian army in 1646 where a garrison was retained for much of the interregnum. After the Restoration of 1660, it fell into neglect until a mansion was constructed in the outer bailey. Apart from some landscaping the remainder of the castle has been left largely untouched.

RMKTT7KG–Medieval Ludlow Castle stands on a promontory overlooking the River Teme in the English county of Shropshire. The castle was probably founded by Walter de Lacy after the Norman conquest and was one of the first stone castles to be built in England. During the civil war of the 12th century the castle changed hands several times between the de Lacy's and rival claimants, and was further fortified with a Great Tower and a large outer bailey. In the mid-13th century, the castle played a part in the Second Barons' War.
