Navy Seaman Charles Shafer, from Beach Master Unit 2, uses flags to signal to the craftmaster of a Navy Landing Craft Air Cushion, or LCAC, at a Kuwaiti Naval Base staging area on June 1, 2005. The LCAC, assigned to Assault Craft Unit 4 based in Little Creek, Va., is deployed in the Northern Persian Gulf with the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) and USS Ashland (LSD 48) in support of transport operations with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
