New York, NY. 3rd June 2020. The flagship Saks Fifth Avenue department store with boarded up windows, barbed wire, and American flags in response to a recent spate of large scale, organized burglaries/looting in various parts of the city. The barbed wire and private security appears to send an almost dystopian, and tone deaf message to the citizens of New York that all hope is lost. On the flip side, it is an immensely Instagrammable photo op. The department store has been closed during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
