New Asylum [for Female Orphans] 1826. Artist/engraver/cartographer: Thomas Allen. Provenance: "The History and Antiquities of the Parish of Lambeth, and the Archiepiscopal Palace in the County of Surrey", by Thomas Allen, published for J. Allen, 23 Prince's Road, Kennington. Type: Antique engraved print. The Asylum for female orphans was situated south of the River Thames in St George’s Fields, Lambeth. It stood at the junction of Kennington Road and Westminster Bridge Road, on the spot now covered by Christ Church. The original asylum was rebuilt in about 1823 to the design of a Mr Lloyd.
