The Cuesta del Bailío was the passageway that linked the upper area of Córdoba (Medina) with the lower area (Axerquía) and that crossed the old Roman wall. The Cuesta del Bailío receives this name because in the sixteenth century fray Pedro Núñez of the Fernández de Córdoba family lived in the house located in the upper area and who was Bailío de Lors. The distinction of bailío alluded to a knight of the Order of San Juan who by seniority or special grace enjoyed the trust of the king and had the power to administer territories and even do justice on his behalf.
