Portrait of Major Robert Anderson, who served as an officer in the U.S. Army and the Union Army during the American Civil War. During his 38 years of service, from 1825 to 1863, he was assigned to 3rd and 1st Regiments of Artillery and also commanded the Union Army at Fort Sumter in the opening battle marking the beginning of the American Civil War in April, 1861.
