The terrace extends over 200 metres in length and is the largest space in the garden. During summer evenings, the Cardinals Este (1550) staged parties that included fireworks, court jesters and acrobatic spectacles. Villa D’Este, renowned for its spectacular use of water, represents the quintessence of the Italian garden of the High Renaissance. It is a designated UNESCO world heritage site.
