Recklinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Renaturalized Hellbach and BLUE CLASSROOM at the Käthe Kollwitz Comprehensive School. The "Blue Classrooms" are small amphitheaters directly at the watercourse. On terraced natural stone blocks, students and teachers have the opportunity to sit down and, for example, conduct biology lessons outdoors. Renaturalized watercourse, the Hellbach is now free of wastewater after the construction of a parallel sewer, belongs to the river system of the Emscher and thus to the Emscher reconstruction, was previously an open, above-ground sewer, combined sewer with surface water and wastewater. The renaturalized Hellbach strengthens urban climate resilience, promotes biodiversity and helps to mitigate urban warming due to climate change.
