Beetroot, variety Rhonda, damaged by rodents (probably mice). The swollen beetroot has been gnawed hollow by small rodents, probably field mice. The mice ruined a whole row of beetroot in one go just before they were ready to harvest. Marks left by teeth clearly visible.
