More information:

The Seven Lakes Drive in Argentina is a very picturesque tourist route 234 partially paved and closed after heavy snow or rain. It runs through the Lanin and Nahuel Haupi National Parks. It offers views of the southern beach forests and seven main lakes including Lagos Lacar and Nahuel Huapi. Slopes turn yellow and red in April/May. This photograph was taken at the end of December. Big-leaf Lupine, Lupus polyphyllus, native to western N. America, 3-5'; blue, purple, pink or white flowers in summer. It is an adventitious species in Argentina, invasive, out competing native species and leading to a monoculture. They can destroy the habitat necessary for a healthy ecosystem. Lupinus: from the Latin lupus for wolf, alluding to mistaken belief that these plants robbed the soil. Polyphyllus: polys for many, frequent, much; phyllon for leaves.
