MAGIC SYMBOLS - JOHN DEE'S SIGILLUM - AEMETH The manuscript design for Dr. John Dee's great seal, copied from his own handwritten manuscript of Mysteriorum Liber Primus, in the British Library (Sloane 3188, in the last folio of book II, f. 30r.) in the year 1582. Dee refers to this important Seal as the Sigillum Dei (an ambiguous term, which could means The Sigil of God, but which almost certainly means Dee's Sigil). The complex design is in effect the Seal of Aemaeth, Aemeth, or Emeth, which figures in the magical system of John Dee, and which was incorporated (often in a truncated form)

The complex design is in effect the Seal of Aemaeth, Aemeth, or Emeth, which figures in the magical system of John Dee, and which was incorporated (often in a truncated form) in a number of later magical manuscripts and grimoires. In its present form (as copied here), the Seal is of a highly sophisticated nature, consisting of a complex play on important sacred numerologies, with an emphasis on the number 5 (which is the number of the name of Jesus in cabbalistic systems), the number 7, the lunar number 28, and the number 33 (sacred in Christian-cabbalism as the number of years during which Christ was incarnate).
