Devil's Dyke, Sussex, England, UKMore information:
Devil's Dyke is a steep sided valley on the South Downs just north of Brighton. Folklore claims the valley was the work of the devil. The legend says that the devil was digging a trench to allow the sea to flood the many churches in the Weald of Sussex. An old woman was disturbed by the noise who woke and lit a candle, the flicker of light lead the devil to believe it was morning. He fled leaving his trench uncompleted.
