The Union Jack seems out of place in St. Augustine Florida, but it is very a part of the history of the oldest city in the United States. The British flag flew over St. Augustine from 1763 to 1784 when the British gained Florida during the Treaty of Paris. St Augustine was then the capital of the colony of East Florida.
