A view of the interrogation room with a picture of Erich Honecker, former head of the Socialist Unity Party of East Germany, on display in the former remand center at the regional office of the East German Ministry for State Security, also known as Stasi, in Dresden, Germany, 5 December 2011. The former remand center serves now as a Stasi memorial place. The sponsoring organisation stages annually on 5 December an open day for visitors to the center. 5 December was deliberately chosen as it marks the demonstrationin Dresden on 5 December 1989 when demonstrators peacefully occupied the regional office and the detention center of the Stasi and managed to stop the destruction and files and documents.
