BAGAN, MYANMAR--Ananda Temple is one of the largest and most revered of the thousands of temples, pagodas, and stupas in Bagan. It dates back originally to the 11th to 12th centuries, but it has been renovated many times over the years, work that is clearly evident throughout but especially on the exterior.

Ananda Temple, Bagan, Mandalay Region, Myanmar (Burma)More information:
The Ananda Temple is located in the Bagan Archeological Zone in Myanmar. It's a Buddhist temple built in 1105 AD during the reign of King Kyanzittha (1084–1113) of the Pagan Dynasty. The temple layout is in a cruciform with several terraces leading to a small pagoda at the top covered by an umbrella known as hti. The Buddhist temple houses four standing Buddhas, one each facing north, south, east, and west. Ananda Temple was damaged in earthquakes in the region in 1975 but has since been fully restored. The guilding on the spires was added 1990 on the occasion of the temple's 900th anniversary.
