More information:

Tianjin, was a Treaty Port, with open trading from 1860. Foreign Powers controlled up to 8 zones of the City in the period 1860-1947. It had Russian, Belgian, French , German , Austro-Hungarian, Japanese and British Concessions. Additionally, there was, most unusually, an Italian Concession The foreigners imported home in terms of architectural style and materials and style of living. There were relevant shops, service businesses and public infrastructure, such as hospitals, as well as living places. A large part of the former Italian Concession has, particularly, been restored and re-modelled into a mainly leisure facility of restaurants, bars and gifts stores. The area has been named Tianjin Haihe Italian Style Town, more normally referred to as New I-Style Town or I-Style Town.
