Bridge over the River Kwai, Kanchanaburi, Thailand.More information:
The Bridge River Over the Kwai became famous all over the world, when it was featured in movies and books, especially David Lean's film. The Bridge River over the Kwai and associated town of Kanchanaburi are tourist destinations now. The track of the new bridge(two spans rebuilt of the old) is developed into a walkway with side platforms. This allows crossing the railway bridge on foot. These platforms are useful as viewpoints and for avoiding trains. A small tourist train runs back and forth across the bridge. The railway, known as Death Railway was constructed by, amongst others, Allied Prisoners of War. Thousands of allied and Asian lives were lost in the building of the railway, by the Japanese, to supply India.
