The Monument to the People's Heroes (人民英雄纪念碑, Rén mín Yīng xióng Jì niàn bēi, Renmin Yīngxiong Jinianbei) is a ten-story obelisk that was erected as a national monument of the People's Republic of China. The Great Hall of the People (人民大会堂, Rénmín Dàhuìtáng, Renmin Dahuitang) is located at the western edge of Tiananmen Square and is used for legislative and ceremonial activities functioning as the parliament building. Tiananmen Square is a large city square in the center of Beijing, China, named after the Tiananmen Gate (Gate of Heavenly Peace) located to its North, separating it from the Forbidden City.
