Engineer working on the Large Hadron collider in the 27Km circular tunnel at CERN near Geneva in the planned 2013 shutdown. During a 2-year maintenance period, engineers repair and add new insulation and other improvements to all 10, 170 splices around the 27Km ring. In the large vacuum tube, two small pipes carry proton beams travelling around the ring in opposite directions together with heat exchangers, superconducting coils, shielding and other necessary equipment.
