This is a land reclamation site previously used for the extraction of gravel. The quarry is owned by Tarmac. Situated on the banks of the River Swale, part of the area is still a working quarry, although not operational at the moment (2013). The picture shows a flooded gravel pit which has been surrounded by an area of replanting to encourage wildlife.
