Originally, Emily Gertrude Thomson (1850–1929) a close friend Lewis Carrol who had illustrated one of his favourite books 'The Fairies – A Child’s Song' by William Allingham was commissioned to supply new artwork for this edition. Due to publishing deadlines, she was only able to supply new artwork for the cover and colour Tenniel's existing illustrations. Photograph from a 1890 first edition hardback.
