Le Marche or the Marches is a hilly region on the east coast of Italy and is bordered by Emilia-Romagna and the republic of San Marino to the north, Tuscany to the north-west, Umbria to the west, Abruzzo and Lazio to the south and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Its unspoilt landscape and towns have made it a popular tourist destination in recent years before which it was a poor region principally based on agriculture.
