Mussenden Temple was built as a library in 1785 by Frederick Augustus Hervey, the 4th Early of Bristol, Bishop of Derry. The Temple was designed after the Temple of Vesta in Italy and dedicated to the memory of Hervey’s cousin, Frideswide Mussenden. The Temple sits on the cliffs above the Atlantic Ocean near Castlerock in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is now part of the National Trust of Downhill Estate and Mussenden Temple.
