Furlough Friday, One of the 169 State Department of Motor Vehicle offices that was closed on Friday, 7/10/09, due to the California budget crisis. California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has declared "a state of emergency" in July of 2009 because of the state of California's impasse on a budget. By closing State offices three weekdays a month the California government expects to save more than 1 billion dollars in 2009 and 2010, currently the state has a 26 billion dollar deficit and been forced to issue IOUs instead of checks in payment of state debts.
