Ostia Antica. Lazio. Italy. View along the lower section of the basalt stone paved Decumano Massimo or Decumanus Maximus with upright pillars. It is the main street of Ostia which runs through the city for over a kilometre and was the continuation of the road that led from Rome to Ostia. Founded at the mouth of the Tiber 30 kilometres to the west of Rome, Ostia was the sea gateway and chief port of ancient Rome and its well preserved ruins endure in a beautiful park of Umbrella pines and cypresses.
