Plaque at the base of the Andrew Carnegie statue in Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Andrew Carnegie born in Dunfermline on 25 November 1835 was a Scottish - American Industrialist. He immigrated to the States in 1848 with his parents. He is credited at leading the expansion of Americas Steel industry in the 19th century. He is remembered as one of the most important philanthropists of his era having devoted the later years of his life on projects which helped thousands of people in America and the United Kingdom. He was responsible for funding 3000 libraries across many countries. He died in 1919 in the USA where he is buried. His remaining wealth of $30, 000, 000 was given to foundations, charities and pensioners.
