The Clipper Round the World yacht race started on the Thames Estuary in September 2019 but was paused part way through the global route due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Restarting from the Philippines early this year the racing yachts have completed the 40,000nm route to the finish line in the Thames Estuary off Southend Pier at dawn. The overall race was won by the Qingdao team, seen at the finish. 11 teams took park in identical 70-foot yachts
