The top lake, Llyn Stwlan, of the Hydro Electric Scheme in Tanygrisiau near Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd north Wales. The bottom lake, Tanygrisiau Reservoir, is some 320m below Llyn Stwlan. This Pump Storage Scheme is operated by First Hydro and was the first of its type to be built in the UK. The four generating units are capable of achieving a combined output of 360MW and the system was first commissioned in 1963. The dam was designerd to store 2 million cu metres of water. In the far distance is Llyn Trawsfynydd and the Trawsfynydd Magnox Nuclear Power Station (now closed down). Grid Ref SH664445.
