This white-tip shark (Triaenodon obesus) was resting in a cave during the day; a common practice with this species which hunts mainly at night. Some years ago, it was thought that sharks had to swim constantly, in order to have sufficient water passing over their gills for oxygenation. It came as a surprise to some 'shark experts' that this was not so. Many sharks take rest breaks, often in a favourite sheltered area - as in this instance. It should be added also that sharks present little or no danger to divers who treat them with respect. Photographed at Daedalus Reef, Egyptian Red Sea.
