View of Willamette River and the sternwheeler tugboat Portland, which houses the Oregon Maritime Center and Museum moored along the seawall at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the west bank in downtown Portland, at the end of SW Pine Street, Portland, Oregon USA. Portland is a city dominated by its river, there are nine large bridges spanning the river. The park and the tugboat is located between the Morrison (in background) and Burnside bridges. Built in 1947, the tugboat worked the ports of Portland and Vancouver for 33 years, a maritime ambassador escorting hundreds of ships to safe harbor. At the ships stern is a 25-foot-tall steam-driven paddle wheel made of Douglas fir. The Portland was retired in 1981, then it rusted for a decade until the Oregon Maritime Museum bought it from the Port of Portland for $1.
