United States President Barack Obama pardons the 2016 National Thanksgiving Turkey, Tater, and its alternate Tot, during a ceremony in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, DC. This is the 69th anniversary of this honored tradition began in 1947 by President Harry S Truman. Once pardoned the birds will be sent to their new home at Virginia Tech's Animal and Poultry Sciences Department at “Gobbler's Rest” in Blacksburg, Virginia where they will be cared for by students and veterinarians.
