WEST VIRGINIA, USA: A picture showing the inside of a typical cell. IS THIS “haunted” former-prison once used to electrocute prisoners to death the most disturbing tourist attraction in the world? Hair-raising pictures reveal the internal workings of the now decommissioned West Virginia State Penitentiary (WVSP), including ‘Old Sparky’, the sadistically named electric chair built by a prisoner, yet used to kill nine inmates. Pictures also include the isolation room, the cell block, the lunch room, maximum security cell as well as the administration building and visitor centre. Built in 1866 this gothic inspired building housed some of the most dangerous and reprehensible criminals in the Western world, before eventually closing its doors in 1995 and re-opening to the public as one of America’s most eerie attractions. Research and Development director Frank C. Grace (45) from Massachusetts USA travelled to Moundsville, West Virginia and spent a total of four hours inside of this decommissioned prison.
