Detroit, Michigan - Workers clean lumber and prepare it for re-use at a warehouse operated by the nonprofit WARM Training Center. The lumber was salvaged from homes being "deconstructed." Deconstruction, an alternative to standard demolition, takes a building apart piece by piece with the intent of re-using as much as possible. Here a worker uses a metal detector to search for nails in a board.
