Skin wound. Whether accidental or not, superficial wounds create a breach in the epidermis but spare the dermis. Bleeding may be abundant if the skin area is richly vascularized. Deep wounds reach arteries or organs. Simple compression may be sufficient to stop the bleeding if the wound is not too deep. Electrocoagulation or suture may be required for deeper wounds. The wound must be carefully disinfected before suturing. Closing the wound accelerates healing.
