First house opened 7th Dec 1732. Royal patent given to John Rich by his father Christopher. (Covent Garden opera house known as Theatre Royal because of this). Huge Success of Gay's Beggars Opera at Lincoln Inn Fields gave enough money to build first Covent Garden theatre.
