Street art and graffitis in San Antonio of Cali in the Cauca Valley, Colombia, South America. Street Art or Graffiti was a crime in Colombia until 2011 following the death of 16 year old, Diego Felipe Becerra who was shot by police whilst he was creating his signature image of Felix the cat. Gustavo Petro, then mayor of Bogotá, issued a decree to decriminalise graffiti and street art painting to help promote what was seen as a new form of artistic and cultural expression, but with the agreement that certain areas should remain free from graffiti, such as public buildings and monuments. This area is known as La Candelaria set in the most popular museums and attractions. The neighborhood is an eclectic juxtaposition between old and new, historic and modern. The beautiful buildings are typical of Spanish colonial architecture, while the streets boast some of the most unique graffiti murals you’ll ever see.
