The Italian-Slovenian border was the scene of bloody battles during the WWI. It was part of the Iron Curtain during the Cold War years. On that border the circulation has been free for 20 years. Now the Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini and the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region Massimiliano Fedriga want to build a wall on that border to counter the arrival of migrants on the Balkan route. Trieste Karst, the Italian-Slovenian border where Salvini wants to build the wall. A sentry-box of the ex Yugoslavia heritage of the Cold War.
