Veneto, Italy, Fagarè della Battaglia. WWI Italian Memorial. The shrine was built in the Fascist period, it contains the remains of 5,191 identified soldiers and 5,350 unknown soldiers who died on the Piave front. Also rests here an officer of the American Red Cross, Lieutenant Edward McKey, friend of the writer Ernest Hemingway.
