Ribe Viking Centre was established in 1992 and is focused on the concept of “living history” and a large number of volunteers are living the everyday life of the Vikings as it is assumed to have been. Within the area there is a marked place a large manor from year 980 and several houses from around year 825 and a Christian church from year 860. Each year a Viking marked takes place. Some 400-500 Vikings from various “reenactment groups”, which comes from primarily Denmark, Germany and Holland, participates with their specialities as warriors or within various trades and within the season different focus themes. In order to participate they must prove their qualifications in terms of skills, dress etc. so they may contribute to creating an authentic and relevant Viking society for the public to experience. The Viking Centre is by the tourist organization “Visit Denmark” listed as a national tourist main attraction.
