The four descent structures at the junction of the Rhine-Herne Canal (rear) from the Dortmund-Ems Canal (front) are referred to as the Waltrop lock park. In front the new elevator was shut down in 2005. The only lifting system in operation is the New Lock, built in 1989 between the old shaft lock and the new lift.
