Women at the Women's Transport Service Camp at Aldershot during World War II. The Auxiliary Territorial Service was the women's branch of the British Army during the Second World War. It was formed on 9 September 1938, initially as a women's voluntary service, and existed until 1 February 1949, when it was merged into the Women's Royal Army Corps. Image details File size:

Members of the only women's transport corps which has continued training and recruiting without ceasing since the war are now in camp at Mychett, near Aldershot, Hampshire. They belong to the Women's Transport Service which is recognized by the Army Council as a voluntary transport organization. In times of national emergency the corps is at the service of the Government.
