"Women in Essential Services - Women bus drivers help expedite America's transportation problems (February 1943)" So says the text on Ms. Ann Rosener's photograph, taken for the "Office of War Information." A fine example of how our nation's women took over countless jobs left empty by men gone to war. Before WW II, women simply did Not drive city buses. Note the stacks of coins, ready to provide change for passengers, such as the friendly sailor paying our happy lady driver. Note sign, "Smoking in Rear Only. Thank you."
