Wonderful original Victorian cabinet card of a group of 7 characterful, happy looking, good humoured gentlemen, of various ages, in quite an informal and relaxed pose for the time. These men are middle classed as they are wearing pocket watches which were an expensive status symbol at the time and the photos show the men displaying the watch chains with suit jackets open They are seated outside in a garden. There are good examples of fashions. All are wearing "sack coats" or "town coats" of wool and tweed, bowler hats, flat caps. The portly man wears a silk rose button hole. circa 1885, U.K.

Dated to mid 1880s due to gold bevel edged mount (1885 - 1892) Source: City Gallery. Also due to following fashion information sourced from the historical emporium which states "This gentleman's well tailored outfit highlights many of the fashions of the 1880s. Note the extremely narrow lapel on the sack coat, the high button front and the curved front of the jacket. His trousers are also tailored to a more slim style, note that there are still no creases in the front of his trousers as the press had not yet been invented. He wears his coat buttoned only at the top to proudly display his vest and watch chain." - accurately reflecting these gentlemen's clothes.
