What is called the Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall) was a defense fortification running from Norway to South-Western France and built by the nazi Todt organisation during WWII. It didn't prevent the invasion by allied armies. Today, the remains are still very impressive, specially in western Brittany where 2 huge submarine bases have been built , the biggest one in Lorient, the second one in Brest. Both towns have been severly bombed by allies without any damage to the bases.
