Zwartble lamb and ewe in a field in north-west England. Zwartbles originated as a sheep breed in the Friesland region of the Netherlands. From being listed as a rare and endangered breed in the 1970s, they are now found widely across the UK in both commercial farms and on smallholdings with the Zwratble Sheep Assocation reporting 12, 500 registered sheep in the UK in 2014.
