Crystal Palace, London, EnglandMore information:
The Crystal Palace, originally sited in Hyde Park, was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton to house the Great Exhibition of 1851. It was enlarged and moved to Upper Norwood in 1854 where it made the area fashionable and was a focus for various events. It was still in use as an exhibition centre when it was destroyed by fire in 1936. This sphinx is part of the Italian Terraces. The mast is the main television transmitter for the London area and, at 719 ft high, is the third-tallest structure in London. It was constructed in the 1950s mostly on the site of the Palace's aquarium which was partially destroyed in 1941.
